Short answer

How much does it cost to move to Paris from Germany?

A studio move to Paris starts at €1,950 from Berlin or Hamburg and €2,000 from Munich, including VAT. A 1-bed flat starts at €2,400 from Hamburg, a 2-bed flat at €2,850. Your fixed price follows from your inventory, access at both addresses and the services you book.

In Paris, access often decides the effort. Older apartment buildings have tight staircases and small lifts, so the floor, the staircase and whether large furniture fits through it matter as much as the distance.

The city’s parking permit, packing and furniture assembly are added to your offer only if they are needed or booked.

Price example

Example: a 1-bed flat from Hamburg to Paris

A couple moves a 1-bed flat of about 12 m³ from Hamburg to a flat in the 11th arrondissement. The truck is up to 3.5 t and parks on a paid parking space for a full day with the city’s permit. This is a worked example based on our starting prices, not a completed customer move.

The permit fee is paid to the City of Paris and comes on top of the moving price.

At a glance

Germany to Paris at a glance

Paris is one of the shorter international routes from Germany. The parking permit and the low-emission zone are what need planning.

  • Distance:about 830 km from Munich, 900 km from Hamburg and 1,050 km from Berlin.
  • Collection to delivery:one to two days, depending on the start city and access.
  • Crit’Air sticker:every vehicle in the Paris low-emission zone needs one; foreign vehicles order it online for €5.11.
  • Tolls:most French autoroutes charge by distance and vehicle class.
  • Weekend rules:in France, trucks over 7.5 t may not drive from Saturday 22:00 to Sunday 22:00.
  • Customs:none: household goods move between Germany and France without customs formalities.
Permit and access

Parking permit, furniture lifts and the low-emission zone

The truck may only stop in the street with a permit from the city. We check your address and staircase before we confirm the plan.

Permit from the City of Paris

The city issues a temporary permit to occupy the street for a move. Apply at least 15 days ahead; we request it once your date is fixed.

What the permit costs

Up to 3.5 t: €17 for a half day and €27 for a full day on a paid parking space, €25 and €40 elsewhere. Over 3.5 t: €35 and €60, or €50 and €90.

Furniture lifts

Where large furniture won’t fit through the staircase, an external furniture lift can be used. In Paris it is only allowed with the move permit and adds a fee of €10–30.

Low-emission zone

Inside the A86 ring, vehicles in Crit’Air categories 3 to 5 and unclassified vehicles are banned: heavy vehicles daily 08:00–20:00, vans Monday to Friday. We plan with a vehicle that meets the rules.

The 1st to 4th arrondissements (Paris Centre) are a limited-traffic zone: through traffic is banned, but driving to an address inside it is allowed.

Settling in France

Registration, your car and customs

No residence registration

EU citizens don’t need a residence permit in France and don’t have to register with the authorities after three months.

Your car

If you settle in France with your own car, it has to be registered in France within one month.

No customs

Household goods from Germany need no customs declaration, because Germany and France are both in the EU single market.

Your invoice

You receive an invoice from Smoover that you can use for reimbursement by your employer or for your tax return.

Services

Packing, furniture assembly and practical extras

Pack your own boxes and leave the heavy furniture to the team, or hand over the whole household while you deal with everything else. Each service is agreed and priced in your fixed-price offer.

Full packing, or just the kitchen, books and fragile items. We protect furniture, label boxes by room and can unpack at delivery. Our packing guide helps with what you prepare yourself.

Furniture dismantling and assembly

We dismantle wardrobes, beds and tables before loading and rebuild them in Paris. New IKEA furniture can be assembled at the new home too.

Large TVs and valuable pieces

Share screen sizes and photos so we can plan suitable protection. Flag paintings and antiques in advance; see our art transport service.

Temporary storage

If your new home in Paris isn’t ready when you have to leave, we store your belongings and deliver later. Storage period and redelivery are agreed in your offer.

Insurance

Every Smoover move is insured through Allianz. Different levels of cover are available depending on the value of your belongings; we explain them before you book.

Leaving your old flat

Where available, add move-out painting and final cleaning for the days after collection, so you can hand back the keys without organising a second company.
