The way back is as long as the way out, so distance and days on the road make up a large part of the price. From Barcelona, southern Germany is closest; from Madrid, Berlin and Hamburg are more than 2,100 km away.
Loading permits, packing and furniture assembly are added to your offer only if they are needed or booked.
Example: a 2-bed flat from Madrid to Munich
A family moves a 2-bed flat of about 20 m³ from Madrid back to Munich. For the collection the truck needs a permit from the City of Madrid, and in Munich a no-parking zone in front of the new building. This is a worked example based on our starting prices, not a completed customer move.
The city fees at both addresses come on top of the moving price.
| Distance | about 1,990 km |
|---|---|
| Home size | 2-bed flat, about 20 m³ |
| Starting price | €4,950 incl. VAT |
| Madrid permit | €60.52 plus €0.58 per metre per day |
| Munich no-parking zone | from €26 per day outside the Mittlerer Ring |
| Time on the road | three to four days |
Your price depends on your own inventory, access and services.
Spain to Germany at a glance
Spain and Germany are both in the EU, so there is no customs. What needs planning is the loading permit in Spain, the no-parking zone at your destination and registering in Germany.
- Distance:about 1,990 km from Madrid to Munich, 2,320 km to Berlin and 2,170 km to Hamburg; from Barcelona about 1,470 km to Munich and 1,870 km to Berlin.
- Collection to delivery:three to four days, depending on the start city and access.
- Tolls:the AP-7 from Barcelona to the French border is toll-free; most French motorways are tolled.
- Truck rules:weekend driving bans in France and Germany only apply to trucks over 7.5 t, so our moving trucks of up to 7.5 t are not affected.
- Registration:within two weeks of moving in, at the registration office, with the landlord’s confirmation.
- Customs:none: household goods from Spain need no customs formalities.
A no-parking zone at your new address
So that the truck can stop right in front of your building, we apply for a no-parking zone. Lead times and fees differ from city to city.
Berlin
The district’s traffic authority issues it. Processing takes about four weeks and the minimum fee is €21. A specialist firm puts up the signs.
Munich
The city’s Mobilitätsreferat processes applications in about ten working days. The signs must be up at least three full days before; one day costs €26 outside and €32 inside the Mittlerer Ring.
Hamburg
The traffic authority at the local police station handles it. Apply at least two weeks before the move; there must be three full days between putting up the signs and moving day.
Leaving Spain
In Madrid a truck over 3.5 t needs a city permit, requested at least 20 calendar days ahead. In Barcelona the Ajuntament’s moving permit reserves a signposted loading space.
Registration, your car and the broadcasting fee
Register within two weeks
Register your new address at the registration office within two weeks of moving in; your landlord provides the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung for it. Arrivals from abroad register in person – in Berlin and Cologne, for example, online registration only covers moves within Germany.
Leaving the Padrón
If you are a foreign national leaving Spain, ask your Ayuntamiento to remove you from the Padrón (baja), so your registration there ends cleanly.
Your car
A Spanish-registered car must be registered at the local vehicle registration office once it is regularly kept in Germany. You need the Spanish papers, the EU certificate of conformity (COC), a valid roadworthiness test (HU) and an insurance confirmation (eVB), among other things. No customs duty applies.
Broadcasting fee
Whoever moves into a home registers it for the Rundfunkbeitrag; one person per home is enough. The fee is €18.36 a month.
Packing, furniture assembly and practical extras
Pack your own boxes and leave the heavy furniture to the team, or hand over the whole household while you deal with everything else. Each service is agreed and priced in your fixed-price offer.
Packing and unpacking
Full packing, or just the kitchen, books and fragile items. We protect furniture, label boxes by room and can unpack at delivery. Our packing guide helps with what you prepare yourself.
Furniture dismantling and assembly
We dismantle wardrobes, beds and tables before loading and rebuild them in Germany. New IKEA furniture can be assembled at the new home too.
Large TVs and valuable pieces
Share screen sizes and photos so we can plan suitable protection. Flag paintings and antiques in advance; see our art transport service.
Temporary storage
If your new home in Germany isn’t ready when you have to leave, we store your belongings and deliver later. Storage period and redelivery are agreed in your offer.
Insurance
Every Smoover move is insured through Allianz. Different levels of cover are available depending on the value of your belongings; we explain them before you book.
Leaving your old flat
Where available, add move-out painting and final cleaning for the days after collection, so you can hand back the keys without organising a second company.
