Short answer

How much does it cost to move from Munich to Barcelona?

A recent 30 m³ household move from Munich to a house near Barcelona, including a piano and full furniture assembly, cost €4,500. A few boxes under 5 m³ cost considerably less. Your fixed price depends on volume, access at both addresses and the services you book.

Kilometres are only part of the price. No two moves are the same: a two-bedroom flat with large wardrobes to dismantle, an oversized wall-mounted TV that needs special protection or antique furniture takes far more preparation and loading time than the same flat with simple IKEA furniture.

Access changes the job too. A packed shipment collected beside a ground-floor entrance is different from furniture carried down several flights of stairs, and in Barcelona the unloading position and route to your door matter just as much. An accurate inventory lets us price the move you actually need.

At a glance

Munich to Barcelona at a glance

This is a popular route, and we see two kinds of move on it: just a few boxes, or a full apartment.

  • Road distance: about 1,600 km through western Germany and France, avoiding Switzerland.
  • Collection to delivery: allow three to five days for a dedicated transport.
  • Trucks: 3.5 t, 7.5 t or 18 t, chosen for volume, weight and access.
  • Typical Smoover move: under 5 m³, or a full apartment of 10–30 m³.
  • Your own travel: direct Munich–Barcelona flights take about two hours.
Real move

A real Munich to Barcelona move with Smoover

Emilia moved from a third-floor apartment with a lift in Munich-Neuhausen to a house in Badalona, on the outskirts of Barcelona. Along with typical household furniture came a piano. We used a 7.5 t truck with a tail lift to load it; luckily it was going to the ground floor. Whenever we move pianos, we wrap them in blankets and use dedicated piano equipment: most weigh at least 200 kg.

“The movers were fast and careful with the stuff, adding extra wrapping to furniture and bikes to prevent any possible scratches.”

Route

Why we drive through France, not Switzerland

The most common route runs through western Germany into France and down to Spain. We avoid the more direct route through Switzerland: Switzerland is outside the EU, so a household shipment would have to clear customs. In summer the French route can get very busy, and sometimes going via Austria and Italy makes more sense; in winter we avoid that route because of the weather in the Alps.

Allow three to five days from collection to delivery and confirm the window before arranging anything that depends on a particular arrival time.

Loading space in Munich

Without private loading space outside your building, a temporary no-parking zone keeps room free for the truck. Munich takes about two weeks to process the application, and the signs have to go up several days before moving day. We apply for the permit and set up and remove the signs.

Delivery

Delivery in Barcelona: planned from your exact address

Give us the exact address rather than just the district, and mention pedestrian access, barriers or instructions from the building manager.

Low-emission zone (ZBE)

Barcelona’s ZBE applies to the delivery vehicle, not just to people bringing their own cars. Our fleet of modern trucks meets its requirements.

A loading bay isn’t moving-day parking

Barcelona’s goods-delivery bays (DUM) generally allow a maximum stay of 30 minutes, not the several hours a household delivery takes. Where needed, we order a parking permit; the cost depends on the district.

Narrow streets in the old town

In the historic centre a large truck often can’t reach the door. We then plan a shuttle with a smaller vehicle or extra carrying time.

Check the route inside the building

A lift doesn’t mean your sofa or wardrobe fits in it. Before collection, check the Barcelona lift, doorways and stair turns; an external moving lift is only possible where the address and permissions allow it.

Services

Packing, furniture assembly and practical extras

You don’t have to choose between doing everything yourself and a full-service move. Pack your own boxes and leave the heavy furniture to the team, or hand over the whole household while you deal with everything else that comes with moving abroad. Each service is agreed and priced in your fixed-price offer.

Packing and unpacking

Full packing, or just the kitchen, books and fragile items you ran out of time for. We protect furniture, label boxes by room and can unpack at delivery. Our packing guide helps with what you prepare yourself.

Wardrobes, beds and new IKEA furniture

We dismantle wardrobes, beds and tables in Munich and rebuild them in Barcelona. New IKEA furniture can be assembled at the new home. Send models, measurements and instructions so we can plan the work.

Large TVs and valuable pieces

Share the screen size and photos so we can plan suitable protection. Flag paintings, antiques and other delicate pieces in advance; see our art transport service.

Washing machine

We disconnect your washing machine, transport it and reconnect it to suitable existing connections at the new address. Send photos and remember the transport bolts.

Temporary storage

If your Barcelona home isn’t ready when you have to leave, we store your belongings and deliver later. Storage period and redelivery are agreed in your offer.

Insurance

Every Smoover move is insured through Allianz. Different levels of cover are available depending on the value of your belongings; we explain them before you book.

Move-out

Leave your Munich flat ready for handover

Book move-out painting and final cleaning for the days after collection, so you can hand back the keys without organising a second company. Our price example: painting only the walls white in a 50 m² flat costs €700 including VAT. The 50 m² is the floor area, not the wall area.

Ceilings, doors and radiators are not part of this example. Send photos of the rooms and the wall condition, and we confirm the scope and price. Other flat sizes and repairs get an individual quote.

How it works

How your Munich to Barcelona move works

  1. Show us what’s coming with you. Send your Munich and Barcelona addresses, preferred dates and an inventory. For a larger home, a short video is enough and we create the list for you. Include the cellar, bikes and balcony furniture.
  2. Receive your offer by WhatsApp or email. We review transport and services and send a detailed fixed-price offer. Ask your questions, then book online when it works for you.
  3. Agree the details. Before moving day we confirm the inventory, access, parking and extras, and note when you hand back your old keys and get the new ones.
  4. Collection in Munich. The team carries out the agreed packing and dismantling, protects your furniture and loads the vehicle.
  5. Delivery in Barcelona. We unload, place the furniture in the rooms you choose and reassemble what was taken apart. Someone needs to be there to let the team in.

Keep passports, keys, medication and everything for the first night with you, not in the truck.

FAQ

Questions about this move

What determines the price of a Munich to Barcelona move?

Volume, handling at each address, packing, vehicle choice and dates. A recent 30 m³ household with a piano cost €4,500; a few boxes cost far less. An inventory is more useful than a room count.

How long should I allow between collection and delivery?

Three to five days for a dedicated transport. The window depends on loading, the chosen route and access at the destination; we confirm it before you book.

Do I need customs documents?

No. Germany and Spain are both in the EU and our route avoids Switzerland, so a normal household move needs no customs clearance.

What happens if the truck can’t park outside my Barcelona apartment?

Tell us when requesting your quote. Depending on the street, we order a parking permit, plan a longer carry or use a shuttle service with a smaller vehicle, for example in the narrow streets of the old town.

Can you pack fragile belongings and dismantle furniture?

Yes. Full or partial packing, protective wrapping and furniture dismantling and reassembly can all be included. Flag fragile or unusually large items in your inventory.

Is it possible to move only a few boxes or selected furniture?

Yes. Many customers on this route send under 5 m³. Send a list with approximate sizes and your preferred dates.

What if my Barcelona home isn’t ready?

We can store your belongings temporarily. Storage location, period and later delivery are agreed in advance.

How are my belongings insured?

All our moves are insured through Allianz, with different levels of cover depending on the value of your shipment. We explain the options before you book.

When should I book?

Four to six weeks ahead is a good planning window, especially if parking permits or specialist handling are needed. It isn’t a minimum: short-notice moves are possible when transport and permits allow.
