At 2,300 to 2,900 km, the drive is the largest part of the price, so Porto is a little cheaper than Lisbon from every German city. Access in the old towns of both cities adds time where the truck can’t stop close to the door.

City permits, packing and furniture assembly are added to your offer only if they are needed or booked.

Price example

Example: a 2-bed flat from Hamburg to Porto

A family moves a 2-bed flat of about 20 m³ from Hamburg to Porto. The city needs the request for a temporary parking restriction at least 22 working days ahead, so we apply as soon as the date is fixed. This is a worked example based on our starting prices, not a completed customer move.

The municipal fee for the permit comes on top of the moving price.

Lisbon and Porto

Permits and access in Lisbon and Porto

Both cities regulate where a truck may stop and drive in the old town. We check your street before we confirm the plan.

Porto: permit 22 working days ahead

Porto’s request for a temporary traffic or parking restriction covers moves. Apply at least 22 working days ahead and pay the fee at least 8 working days before the date.

Porto: old-town access

Vehicles over 3.5 t may not drive in the restricted zone 08:00–10:00 and 18:00–20:00, and camera-controlled areas such as Ribeira only admit registered vehicles.

Lisbon: street permit

For a move, Lisbon issues a temporary traffic and parking restriction on request. Apply at least 10 working days and at most one month ahead.

Lisbon: historic quarters

Alfama, Bairro Alto, Bica and Castelo have restricted access managed by EMEL, with permits for loading and unloading. Steep, narrow streets often mean a smaller vehicle.

Registering in Portugal

EU registration certificate and NIF

EU registration certificate

If you stay longer than three months, register at the Câmara Municipal where you live within 30 days after those first three months. Porto issues it on the same day in person.

NIF

Portugal’s tax number is free and needed for most contracts. You get it at a tax office (Serviço de Finanças) by appointment.

No customs

Household goods from Germany need no customs declaration, because Germany and Portugal are both in the EU single market.

Your invoice

You receive an invoice from Smoover that you can use for reimbursement by your employer or for your tax return.

Services

Packing, furniture assembly and practical extras

Pack your own boxes and leave the heavy furniture to the team, or hand over the whole household while you deal with everything else. Each service is agreed and priced in your fixed-price offer.

We dismantle wardrobes, beds and tables before loading and rebuild them in Portugal. New IKEA furniture can be assembled at the new home too.

Large TVs and valuable pieces

Share screen sizes and photos so we can plan suitable protection. Flag paintings and antiques in advance; see our art transport service.

Temporary storage

If your new home in Portugal isn’t ready when you have to leave, we store your belongings and deliver later. Storage period and redelivery are agreed in your offer.

Insurance

Every Smoover move is insured through Allianz. Different levels of cover are available depending on the value of your belongings; we explain them before you book.

Leaving your old flat

Where available, add move-out painting and final cleaning for the days after collection, so you can hand back the keys without organising a second company.
