Moving from Berlin
to Amsterdam
From €800 including VAT. Your move planned around both homes, with packing, permits and outside lifts available.
Smoover organises household moves from Berlin to Amsterdam, from a few furniture items to a complete home. We plan transport, loading and unloading around your inventory and both properties. You can add packing, furniture assembly, storage and help with the practicalities of moving out.
The most useful preparation starts at your front doors: a Berlin courtyard can add a long carrying distance, while an Amsterdam staircase may be too tight for a sofa. Share these details early so we can agree the crew, equipment, permissions and price before moving day.
How much does it cost to move from Berlin to Amsterdam?
Smoover’s Berlin to Amsterdam starting prices are from €800 for one person, from €1,200 for two people and from €1,500 for three people, including VAT. Your final quote depends on the inventory, access at both addresses, dates and selected services.
| Household size | Starting price |
|---|---|
| 1 person | From €800 |
| 2 people | From €1,200 |
| 3 people | From €1,500 |
Household size is a guide, not a fixed volume allowance. These starting prices apply to Berlin → Amsterdam. A move in the other direction requires its own quote.
What makes one move cost more than another?
Volume and weight: include furniture, boxes, cellar contents and bicycles. A home full of books needs a different load plan from the same volume of light furniture. Vehicle capacity means both usable space and legal payload.
Access and handling: floor level, a usable lift, narrow turns, courtyard passages and the distance from the truck all affect the work. Amsterdam parking reservations, specialist equipment and a smaller shuttle vehicle can also change the price.
Dates and services: tell us whether your dates are fixed and whether the new home is ready. Packing, dismantling, storage and additional delivery visits need to be planned together. Reducing the inventory or offering some date flexibility may make a simpler plan possible.
Leaving Berlin: plan the route from your flat to the truck
Altbau stairs, courtyards and rear buildings
For an Altbau flat in Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Prenzlauer Berg or elsewhere, tell us whether you are in the front building, a side wing or the Hinterhaus. The street address alone does not show how far the team must carry your furniture.
Photograph the entrance, gates, courtyard passage, staircase turns and landing outside your flat. Measure the narrowest opening for large furniture. If the building has a lift, check its door width, internal dimensions and whether the building manager allows it to be used for the move.
For larger apartment blocks, agree lift access and any delivery booking with the building manager. Keep keys or access codes available for every gate between the flat and the loading point.
We can arrange the Berlin no-parking zone
Select a no-parking zone for collection in your Smoover move planner. We handle the district permit, sign delivery and installation, the installation record and collection of the signs afterwards. Signs are installed in advance according to the local requirements.
The authority’s permit and the physical signs are separate parts of the process. A resident parking permit or a space kept free with chairs does not replace an authorised moving zone. Berlin’s official no-parking guidance explains the district’s role.
Finish the handover before travelling
Arrange the inspection and key handover, record meter readings and photograph the empty rooms. Check your actual rental obligations before booking cleaning or painting. Smoover can quote for move-out cleaning and painting separately.
Arriving in Amsterdam: the final street matters
Amsterdam homes vary widely. A canal house in the Jordaan, a walk-up in De Pijp and a newer apartment in Noord can need very different delivery plans. We assess your actual address, building and furniture before choosing the vehicle and unloading method.
Narrow streets and busy pavements
One-way streets, bollards, cycle routes and limited unloading space can affect where the truck stops. A nearby parking space is only useful if there is a safe, permitted carrying route to the entrance. Send street photographs as well as pictures inside the building.
Steep stairs and tight turns
Older Amsterdam homes can have steep staircases, narrow doorways and small landings. Measure the sofa, mattress and wardrobe sections against the tightest turn, not just the front door. Dismantling a bed may solve the problem; a rigid sofa may need an outside lift.
Canals, bridges and vehicle weight
Amsterdam requires an exemption for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes entering its heavy-traffic zone. Local bridge or quay restrictions may be tighter and can still apply to vehicles with an exemption. We check the route and can plan a smaller vehicle or shuttle if needed. Heavy-traffic exemptions and rules protecting bridges and canal walls are separate from parking arrangements.
Low-emission and zero-emission zones
Amsterdam has an A10 low-emission area and an S100 zero-emission area for vans and lorries, with exceptions and transitional rules. Eligibility depends on vehicle type, emissions standard, registration date and move date. We check the vehicle for the destination; a German emissions sticker does not establish Amsterdam access. See the city’s current zone map and vehicle rules.
A larger motorway truck is not automatically the right vehicle for the last street. The plan must satisfy both load capacity and local access conditions.
Will you need an outside moving lift in Amsterdam?
An outside moving lift, called a verhuislift, may be useful when furniture cannot safely pass through the staircase. It moves items through a suitable window or balcony. Smoover can arrange specialist lifting equipment after checking the property, available street space and required permissions.
When it may help
A large sofa, tall cabinet or bulky mattress may fit through an upper-floor opening even when the internal staircase is unsuitable. A lift can also reduce repeated carrying on difficult stairs. It is an option to assess before the truck leaves Berlin.
It will not suit every home. A rear-facing room with no accessible setup area, a window that does not open far enough, street trees or overhead obstructions may rule it out. The operator must check reach, load capacity, ground conditions and safe operating conditions.
Agree building access as well
Check with your landlord or building manager about using the window or balcony and protecting the building. A municipal permission to occupy street space does not itself authorise alterations to the property. Avoid promising furniture delivery through a window until its suitability is confirmed.
Amsterdam parking and lift permits: we organise the details
Smoover can organise the required Amsterdam parking reservation and coordinate any lift or access permissions as part of your move. Select parking support for your destination in the move planner and share the exact address. We identify what is needed and include the agreed arrangements in your quote.
Reserved parking spaces: TVM
A temporary traffic measure, or TVM, can reserve space for unloading or equipment. Paying at a parking meter does not reserve a space. Amsterdam places the reservation signs through its municipal process. Its published minimum application lead time is six working days.
Costs can be substantial: the city currently lists €150.90 for one or two spaces plus €277.70 for a reservation of one to three days. Together, those published components are €428.60, before other applicable arrangements or Smoover’s service costs. This is an illustrative municipal fee calculation, not a Smoover package price or the total cost for every address. Official reservation fees and conditions, checked 24 September 2026.
Space for the moving lift: notification or object permit
Some unregistered moving lifts can be covered by a free notification at least 48 hours ahead, subject to location and placement conditions. In Centrum, and for objects on quays or bridges, an object permit is required. The notification does not reserve parking spaces.
Where an object permit is needed, the city currently asks for at least seven working days and lists €181.30 for two weeks or less. This is a separate municipal permission; lift hire and operation are additional services. Smoover checks which procedure fits the equipment and address. See notification conditions and object permit requirements.
Vehicle access and any street closure
A parking reservation does not remove weight limits, emission rules, restricted access or the need for an additional traffic arrangement when a street must be blocked. We coordinate the unloading plan with these constraints so that the booked truck and equipment can actually reach the property.
Municipal fees and lead times can change. We check the current requirements for your move. Send the address as soon as you have it; minimum application periods are not a guarantee of approval or availability.
How long does a Berlin to Amsterdam move take?
The road journey is around 660 km, but collection-to-delivery time includes much more than driving. Packing, loading, driver breaks, traffic, unloading and any lift booking all affect the schedule. We confirm the delivery plan with your quote.
For context, ADAC’s city-to-city route is approximately 659 km. Its car journey estimate is not a removal-truck timetable. A route suitable for a car may also be unsuitable for a heavy vehicle near your Amsterdam home.
A collection on one day and delivery the next can be a workable plan for some direct moves. Treat it as a planning example, not a guaranteed service window. A larger move, packing day, storage period or restricted delivery slot can extend the schedule.
Small or partial moves
You can request transport for a few boxes and furniture items. Ask whether a shared-load option is available for your dates and how flexible its collection and delivery windows are. Confirm whether loading and unloading are included or whether any help from you is expected.
A complete household
Plan the crew and vehicle around both volume and weight. If your dates are fixed, explain the deadline before booking. Where the Amsterdam street cannot take the main vehicle, allow for a separately planned transfer into a smaller vehicle.
Choose the moving services you need
Start with collection, transport and delivery, then add the work you want Smoover to handle. Each selected service is agreed in the quote.
Packing and protection
Choose full packing or help with fragile items, large TVs and furniture. Identify delicate electronics, instruments or artwork before booking so we can plan suitable protection. Our packing guide helps if you prepare your own boxes.
Furniture dismantling and assembly
We can dismantle and reassemble wardrobes, beds and other agreed furniture, and assemble new IKEA furniture at the destination. Tell us the models and condition so we can assess what can be taken apart and moved safely.
Appliances and settling in
Request washing-machine disconnection and reconnection at suitable existing connections. Keep the transport bolts and appliance instructions available. Unpacking and other agreed setup work can help you get the new home ready.
Storage between homes
If your Amsterdam home will not be ready, ask for temporary storage and a later delivery. The quote should specify storage duration, handling, access arrangements and onward transport. Let us know as soon as your handover dates change.
For artwork or unusually valuable items, see our art transport service and agree packing, handling and cover in advance.

- Send access photos, including the Amsterdam façade if an outside lift may be needed.
- Confirm key dates and select packing, assembly, storage and parking support.

- Label boxes by destination room; keep heavy contents in smaller boxes.
- Empty and prepare appliances according to their instructions.

Documents and registration when moving to the Netherlands
Household goods within the EU
For ordinary personal belongings moving from Germany to the Netherlands, Dutch Customs says no customs declaration is required. Special rules still apply to certain goods, including vehicles, alcohol, tobacco, pets and some cultural objects. Tell us about unusual items before booking. Dutch Customs guidance for moves within the EU.
Keep your moving paperwork accessible
Keep the agreed inventory, quote, contact numbers, identification and accommodation documents with you. A useful inventory records large items, box counts, condition and any specialist handling, even when it is not needed for a customs declaration.
Register your Amsterdam address
If you move from abroad for more than four months, Amsterdam says you must register with the city and visit a City Office within five days of arrival. Check the documents required for your circumstances; registration provides your BSN. Amsterdam’s first-registration guidance.
Check residence status and Berlin departure formalities
A residence permit from another EU country does not automatically give a non-EU citizen the right to live and work in the Netherlands. Check the Dutch immigration authority’s guidance before relocating. If you leave your Berlin home to live abroad, check the Berlin deregistration requirements. Arrange utilities, post and your tenancy handover separately.

Berlin to Amsterdam moving questions
Can Smoover organise Amsterdam parking permits?
Yes. We can organise the required parking reservation and coordinate lift or access permissions for your address. Select destination parking support in the move planner. Amsterdam arrangements can involve several separate fees, which we account for in the agreed quote.
Do all Amsterdam moves need an outside lift?
No. Some homes have suitable stairs or a usable internal lift. For difficult furniture, we assess dimensions, staircase turns, an accessible window or balcony and safe equipment placement before recommending an outside lift.
Does booking a parking space also authorise a moving lift?
Not automatically. A TVM reserves space, while placing equipment may require a notification or object permit. Vehicle access and a possible street closure are further checks. Smoover coordinates the arrangements relevant to your move.
Can you move only a sofa, some boxes or a student room?
Yes, you can request a smaller move. Give us the full item list, dimensions, floors and access at both addresses. We will confirm the transport option, handling arrangements and available dates in your quote.
What if my sofa will not fit through the Amsterdam staircase?
Tell us before collection and send measurements and photos. We can assess dismantling where possible or an outside lift through a suitable opening. If neither method is feasible, agree another plan before transporting the item.
How far ahead should I book?
Contact us when your dates and destination address become known, ideally several weeks ahead. Berlin lists an average of about four weeks for its no-parking application. Amsterdam publishes separate minimum periods for parking and object permits. Ask about short-notice availability so we can check what is feasible for both addresses.
Are my belongings covered during the move?
Ask us to confirm the applicable liability and any optional insurance in writing before booking. Tell us about high-value items and check valuation, limits, exclusions, owner-packed goods and the damage-reporting procedure. Basic liability is not the same as full replacement-value insurance.
What happens if I cannot get the Amsterdam keys on time?
Contact us as soon as possible. We can discuss storage and rescheduled delivery. Waiting time, extra handling and another delivery trip may affect the quote, so agree the revised plan before moving day whenever possible.
Do the starting prices also apply from Amsterdam to Berlin?
No. The published prices of from €800, €1,200 and €1,500 including VAT apply to Berlin → Amsterdam for one-, two- and three-person households. We provide a separate quote for Amsterdam → Berlin.
