Short answer

How much does it cost to move from Amsterdam to Berlin?

A recent 15 m³ move from a two-bedroom apartment in Amsterdam’s Jordaan to Kreuzberg, including furniture assembly, specialist packing of DJ equipment and an Amsterdam parking permit, cost €2,900. Most moves on this route are 12–20 m³; simpler moves without permits or special items cost less.

The price depends mainly on how much you’re moving, access at both properties, whether you need packing or assembly, and the parking situation. A 12 m³ move from a ground-floor Amsterdam flat with flexible dates can cost substantially less than the same volume carried down from a fifth floor without a lift and delivered to a difficult Berlin address.

  • Your own travel: direct trains and flights connect both cities.
  • Customs: none for a normal household move; both countries are in the EU.
Real move

A real Amsterdam to Berlin move with Smoover

A customer moved from a two-bedroom apartment in the Jordaan to Kreuzberg. Alongside standard household furniture came DJ turntables and sound equipment, which our team packed specially. The customer packed most boxes themselves; we dismantled and reassembled the bed, wardrobe and dining table, and the load filled a 3.5 t truck.

The move itself wasn’t difficult, but it needed a parking permit in Amsterdam, which we arranged in advance so the truck could stand at the door for the whole load.

Collection

What makes the Amsterdam collection different

Ringed with canals, central Amsterdam has narrow streets, limited parking and buildings with steep staircases or restricted access for larger vehicles. That’s why we ask for details of both addresses before the move: floor level, lift, and the distance from the entrance to the nearest practical loading point.

Parking for the truck

Reserving bays outside your building needs a temporary traffic measure (TVM) from the municipality, applied for at least six working days ahead; car-free streets need a separate exemption. We check your street and apply.

Steep canal-house stairs

When furniture won’t fit down the stairs, an external moving lift takes it out through the window. Photos of the staircase tell us which you need; the lift’s use depends on the street and the permit.

Vehicle size and quays

Some streets and quays restrict vehicle size and weight. We choose the truck to fit the street, not just the volume, and plan the carry if it can’t stop right outside.

Leaving the Netherlands

Report your departure to the municipality and arrange meter readings and the handover of your flat. We time the collection around your key return.

Delivery

Delivery in Berlin

Berlin is usually easier, but moves into Altbau apartments can still mean narrow staircases, high floors and no space for a truck outside. We apply for a temporary no-parking zone at your Berlin address, which usually takes around two weeks to process, and set up and collect the signs. Whatever the building, we’ve dealt with it before.

  • Register your new address at the Bürgeramt within two weeks of moving in.
  • Bring the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung from your landlord to the appointment.
  • Keep passports and keys with you, not in the boxes.
Services

Packing, furniture assembly and practical extras

You don’t have to choose between doing everything yourself and a full-service move. Pack your own boxes and leave the heavy furniture to the team, or hand over the whole household while you deal with everything else that comes with moving abroad. Each service is agreed and priced in your fixed-price offer.

Packing and unpacking

Full packing, or just the kitchen, books and fragile items you ran out of time for. We protect furniture, label boxes by room and can unpack at delivery. Our packing guide helps with what you prepare yourself.

Wardrobes, beds and new IKEA furniture

We dismantle wardrobes, beds and tables in Amsterdam and rebuild them in Berlin. New IKEA furniture can be assembled at the new home. Send models, measurements and instructions so we can plan the work.

Large TVs and valuable pieces

Share the screen size and photos so we can plan suitable protection. Flag paintings, antiques and other delicate pieces in advance; see our art transport service.

Washing machine

We disconnect your washing machine, transport it and reconnect it to suitable existing connections at the new address. Send photos and remember the transport bolts.

Temporary storage

If your Berlin home isn’t ready when you have to leave, we store your belongings and deliver later. Storage period and redelivery are agreed in your offer.

Insurance

Every Smoover move is insured through Allianz. Different levels of cover are available depending on the value of your belongings; we explain them before you book.

For hard-to-reach Dutch apartments we can also bring an external moving lift, so furniture goes out through the window instead of down the stairs.

How it works

How your Amsterdam to Berlin move works

  1. Show us what’s coming with you. Send your Amsterdam and Berlin addresses, preferred dates and an inventory. For a larger home, a short video is enough and we create the list for you. Include photos of the Amsterdam staircase.
  2. Receive your offer by WhatsApp or email. We review transport and services and send a detailed fixed-price offer. Ask your questions, then book online when it works for you.
  3. Agree the details. Before moving day we confirm the inventory, access, parking and extras, and note when you hand back your old keys and get the new ones.
  4. Collection in Amsterdam. The team carries out the agreed packing and dismantling, protects your furniture and loads the vehicle.
  5. Delivery in Berlin. We unload, place the furniture in the rooms you choose and reassemble what was taken apart. Someone needs to be there to let the team in.

Keep passports, keys, medication and everything for the first night with you, not in the truck.

FAQ

Questions about this move

How much does it cost to move from Amsterdam to Berlin?

It depends mainly on volume, access, dates and services. A recent 15 m³ move with assembly, specialist packing and an Amsterdam parking permit cost €2,900. We calculate your fixed price from your inventory.

How long does an Amsterdam to Berlin move take?

The cities are about 650 km apart. For a dedicated move, delivery usually follows one to two days after collection, depending on loading time, access and scheduling.

Do I need customs documents when moving from the Netherlands to Germany?

Normally not: both countries are in the EU. Special rules can apply to vehicles, certain plants or other regulated items, so tell us about anything unusual before moving day.

Can Smoover pack my belongings?

Yes. Full packing, or only selected fragile items and furniture. If you pack your own boxes, we concentrate on protection, loading and transport.

Can I move only a few boxes or furniture items?

Yes. Small moves can be surprisingly affordable, especially if everything is packed and ready when the driver arrives. This works well for students and expats leaving furnished apartments.

Do you offer storage?

Yes. Temporary storage helps when you have to leave Amsterdam before your Berlin home is ready. Tell us when requesting your quote so we can plan the schedule around it.

Are my belongings insured?

Yes. Smoover is insured through Allianz. Basic insurance, up to €620 per m³, is included as standard, and full insurance at new value is available.

How far in advance should I book?

Several weeks ahead gives the most flexibility, especially in summer and at the end of the month. Amsterdam parking reservations need at least six working days, Berlin no-parking zones around two weeks. Last-minute requests are often possible too.
