What should you include in your enquiry?
Start with both addresses, your moving dates and a list of furniture and boxes. Include the cellar, loft and storage rooms. A photograph of each room gives an overview; photograph large or delicate pieces separately as well.
For a wardrobe, record its width, height and depth and whether it can be dismantled. For a sofa, check the doorway and staircase too. Flag missing measurements and questions rather than filling the gaps with guesses. This helps identify preparation work before collection.
Agree transport, packing and assembly separately
Decide which jobs you will do yourself. Will your boxes be packed before collection? Does any furniture need dismantling? Does a delicate item need particular protection? Request these jobs alongside transport so they can be considered in the quote.
Check the work at both ends of the route. Dismantling an item in Germany does not, by itself, describe who will assemble it at the destination. The services agreed for your move define the job.
Coordinate collection, your journey and delivery
Record three dates separately: when your old home must be empty, when you receive the new keys and when someone can accept delivery. Together, these define the room for manoeuvre in your transport schedule.
Do not book your own journey around an assumed delivery time. Agree collection and delivery windows for the actual route. If someone else accepts the delivery, they need access to the property and instructions on where items should go. Keep documents, medication and essentials for the first few days in your travel luggage.
Check borders and documentation early
Import requirements depend on the route, goods and personal circumstances. Moving within the EU can involve different preparation from moving to Great Britain or Switzerland. The planned transit route also matters.
Clarify requirements before booking transport. An everyday packing list may not contain everything required for customs. Keep your inventory current and check which documents must be available before collection.
How much does an international move cost?
A rate per kilometre explains only part of the work. The amount of furniture affects vehicle space; floors, lifts and carrying distances affect the work at each property. Agreed packing, assembly and timing requirements also contribute.
Compare quotes against the same inventory. A lower total might assume that you pack the boxes, leave out furniture assembly or provide a shorter carrying distance. Resolve those differences before choosing an offer.
